The Baker Company once again a proud ABSA Corporate Member in 2024.
Once again this year, The Baker Company is a proud Corporate Member of ABSA International. ABSA is a leading association for biosafety professionals, focused on advancing biosafety as a scientific discipline and supporting professionals worldwide. This is achieved through annual conferences, an extensive knowledge base, and an active network in which members can directly exchange information and advice. Through the ABSA ListServ, for example, members can ask specific questions and receive real-time support. In addition, ABSA is committed to the recognition of biosafety as a profession through training and accreditation programs.
Years of collaboration and expertise in biosafety
The Baker Company has been a corporate sponsor of ABSA for many years and shares valuable knowledge on biosafety, with a specific focus on biological safety cabinets and laboratory ventilation. A good example of this is our Biosafety Mythbusters series, in which we present experimental evidence on the correct and incorrect use of safety cabinets. The insights from this series are discussed with great interest during the annual ABSA conference.
In addition, Baker offers expertise in:
✅ Selecting the right biological safety cabinet (BSC)
✅ Installation and maintenance
✅ Effective cleaning and disinfection
Our involvement extends to both global and local ABSA chapters, including NEBSA (New England), MaBION (Midwest), ChABSA (Mid-Atlantic), SBA (Southwest), and EBSA (Europe).
A shared history of innovation and leadership
Since its founding, The Baker Company has been closely connected to the development of biosafety, in parallel with the growth of ABSA International. David Stuart, one of our experts, was even involved in the founding of ABSA, underscoring our essential role in the biosafety community.
Recognition and impact
Baker’s contributions to biosafety have also been recognized with prestigious awards, including:
???? Everett Hanel Jr. Presidential Award (1991) for Jack Eagleson
???? Arnold J. Wedum Distinguished Achievement Award (2005) for David Stuart
Education as a core value: the role of the Eagleson Institute
The Eagleson Institute, founded by the owners of Baker, is an essential platform for biosafety education. The institute actively contributes to ABSA through lectures and training programs, including the sponsorship of an annual lecture at the ABSA conference. In 1997, Mary Ann Sondrini, Executive Director of the Eagleson Institute, was honored with the Everett Hanel Jr. Presidential Award for her contribution to biosafety education.
Knowledge sharing through publications and presentations
Baker continues to advance biosafety through valuable contributions to ABSA publications and conferences. Experts such as Barbara Rake, Ted Grenier, David Stuart, Dan Ghidoni, and Dr. Kara Held have played an important role in disseminating knowledge and best practices within the biosafety community through their presentations and research.
With pride, we remain committed to biosafety and look forward to a new year filled with collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing within ABSA International!
