Supporting Science through COVID-19!

At Baker, we have been supporting science for almost 7 decades.

The safety of users and their work is always the highest priority. Baker set industry standards in 1951 with the development of the world’s first clean air cabinet. These standards are still followed today!

In the current COVID-19 global pandemic, we have seen keyworkers being applauded for their efforts to continue in these circumstances. We want to ensure that science is not forgotten!

Behind every COVID-19 test result, there’s a medical laboratory scientist or technician that plays a vital role. An extremely skilled individual that dedicates their career to making our world a safer place.

Here’s some of this week’s highlights from #SupportingScience through COVID-19!

1. Coronavirus Test Tracker: Commercially Available COVID-19 Diagnostic Tests

As labs and diagnostic developers race to meet demand for assays to detect the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, 360Dx is updating this tracker on a regular basis in order to provide readers with up-to-date and accurate information on the regulatory status of these tests in the US, European, and Asian markets.

2. Emory helps lead research on drug to treat COVID-19 patients

Emory University played a leading role in the government-sponsored clinical trial of the COVID-19 drug remdesivir – enrolling more patients in the study than any other site around the globe. Emory and an affiliated hospital enrolled 103 patients, more than any other institution in the world.

The large Emory team is led by Aneesh Mehta, MD, and Nadine Rouphael, MD, both associate professors in the Division of Infectious Diseases

3. Number of COVID-19 tests performed in the most impacted countries worldwide as of April 29, 2020

As of April 29, 2020, the United States had performed almost 6 million tests for COVID-19, the highest number of any country worldwide. The US is followed by Russia with 3,490,000 and Germany with 2,546,052.

4. EU data portal launches to support COVID-19 research

The European Commission has launched a data portal for scientists studying the SARS-CoV-2 virus to speed up access to data sets and tools in order to bolster research efforts by encouraging data reuse and open science. The COVID-19 Data Portal is intended to accelerate regional efforts to combat the virus by creating a central repository for storing and sharing available research data, such as DNA sequences, protein structures, data from pre-clinical research and clinical trials and epidemiological data.
